Provide any additional details you wish below.

I'm mostly asking what you guys think is the best value for money? I don't want to play AAA games on ultra, I'd just like to play Blizzard games at 1920x1080.

The main dilemma I face is is the Ryzen 3 1200 a good buy or should I stretch for the 1300x? (I think I know the answer). Or do I get a 1050ti with the G4560? Getting an AM4 board is more ideal to upgrade down the line if i want an R5 though I take it? I'm upgrading from a laptop so a monitor is added to the price.

Thanks

[Troubleshooting]Recently got a new SSD, Windows won't install on it, tried everything pc building site custom pc builder

I got a new SSD recently, the Samsung 850 EVO - 500GB. I currently run a licensed version on Windows 10 on HDD from before. Naturally, I want to move to OS to the SSD. I created a bootable USB drive using the Windows Media creation tool, unplugged the HDD and restarted. At first, the installer told me that I can only install windows on a GPT drive. I changed the SSD to GPT format and tried again. This time I received the error "We coudn't create a new partition or locate an existing one". I browsed online for a solution, but nothing seems to be working. The SSD is in AHCI mode, and I've cleaned it, made sure everything was proper, but I still can't install.

Is this build going to be worth it with Ryzen 3? pc building site custom pc builder

All of the purchased parts are what I currently own, this is the max I would be willing to spend on upgrades. Any help in bringing the price down would be appreciated, while keeping the aesthetics of course. Right now I'm rocking an Athlon x4 845 and a Gigabyte GA-F2A68HM-HD2. I'm trying to get off this dead socket so thought Ryzen would be a good option. Especally with the low price of R3. Mere hours before R3 was released I was looking at a Pentium G4560 build but then made the jump to potentially get Ryzen. Is this build worth it?

Should i sacrifice an rx 570 for an r5 1600 or not? [x-post r/amd] pc building site custom pc builder

So im trying to build a budget pc. Currently the 570s cost about 300$ here but what they were before all the mining stuff was ~200. The 1050ti costs 170$ right now and will probably go down 10-20$. My build is supposed to be a r5 1400+rx570 but i was wondering if i should sacrifice the extra performance of the 570 for a 1050ti+r5 1600. Any help?

Noob Question - Is There Hope for my Optiplex 980 Desktop? pc building site custom pc builder

Compete noob here, so I appreciate any advice you can give. Long story short, the only game I play on my PC is Heroes of the Storm, and somehow I won a sweepstakes they were having that basically gave me every game in the Blizzard catalog + enough Blizzard balance to pre-order Destiny 2. Problem is, I'm pretty sure my current desktop couldn't handle any game except HoTS. Based on my current components, I think all I really need is a GPU and probably PSU upgrade, but have no real idea where to start. Can you all offer any advice on the cheapest upgrade I could make so my machine could handle Destiny 2 at the lowest settings? Is it even possible? My current setup:

Optiplex 980 DT Windows 10 64 bit 8gb ddr3 (2 x 4gb) ram Stock Dell 255w PSU Intel Core i7 860 / 2.80GHz vPro 512mb AMD Radeon HD4550

I was looking at maybe a GT 1030 and a new PSU -- would that work? I'll probably upgrade my entire setup within the next two years, which is why I'm looking to do this cheap. Thanks in advance and happy to provide any other info!

Mixing different sizes of ram, but everything else is the same pc building site custom pc builder

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I built a PC a while back and for my ram I have a set of 2x4 gb 2400 Mhz ballistix ram and an asus pro gaming z170 motherboard.

Now to the question:

I was considering buying a 2x8 kit of the exact same ram, and combining it with my existing 2x4 set. Would it be possible to have such a combination? Will any sort of overclocking be compromised if I have this sort of setup? The specs for both the modules are exactly the same, bar the actual ram size.

Upgrading an old pc (i5-2500K,Radeon HD 6570 → GTX1050Ti and others) pc building site custom pc builder

I want to do some upgrading on my pc with following components:

  • CPU: i5-2500K
  • MB: Asus P8H61-M LE
  • GPU: Radeon HD 6570 → GTX 1050Ti (Zotac mini)
  • RAM: Kingston 2x2GB DDR3/1333 → Kingston HyperX fury 2x8GB DDR3/1600
  • HDD: Seagate 500GB (ST3500413AS) + (New) Seagate 1TB (ST1000DM010)
  • 500W power supply that works fine with current setup
  • Case with 2x12cm fan and 2x8cm fan

It should be fine, right? and if not, what I could change to make it better? ($380 max, ~350 right now)

and while I'm at it, can anyone recommended some cheap decent cases that's small but having enough space to fit all of these things in while maintaining good air flow?

Thanks in advance.

Im not sure if my motherboard is dying or if this could be a PSU issue

My computer is no longer wanting to display with the GPU installed, it is also being picky as to whether it displays when plugged into the mobo, this happened without any new hardware being installed or any software changes (as far as i know). When i turn the power on the computer seemingly boots up (fans spin up and stay spinning). I also have a memory card reader installed which after a few days of being ok is now randomly connecting and disconnecting.

There was a power cut to the area a couple of days before i had this issue but the PC booted up fine after that so im not sure if that may have damaged anything.

I have tried: Giving the inside of the case a clean (had some dust but nothing terrible) Reseating the GPU with minimum other peripherals plugged in Checking on multiple monitors using HDMI and/or DP

PC is approx 3yrs old (apart from GPU which was installed about a year ago) Nothing in system has been overclocked or had any special changes made.

Would be nice if you can send me some rly good case which u have or used to have and was very good noise isolated. PC Build Advice for a Noob? pc building site custom pc builder

Hey guys! So I've had kind of the same PC build since 2013, and I've stopped to replace parts here and there, but I was wondering if it was time to replace my motherboard and CPU. I don't want to be chugging when Destiny 2 finally comes out. u_u I'm a bit of an amateur PC builder, so I have no idea what's holding me back here. Any advice would be super appreciated!

  • Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth z77
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Power Supply: 750w Rosewill
  • Monitor: ASUS 30" 140hz
  • CPU: Can't quite remember and can't look because I'm at work, but it was made around 2013 and it's Intel, will edit when I get home

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Gaming, not intense gaming mind you, I play LoL/OW/gw2 on a reallyyy bad PC right now

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

Medium/High settings, ~60fps though I play on much less now and not hugely fussed, I don't think I play games which are too performance intense.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

~700 GBP on parts(not including OS), I could potentially put off buying a monitor for some time if that meant getting some better parts.

I'm not sure about the monitor, I only care thats its not too pricey and not too big (I have 19 inch atm though I'd like at least little bigger) so if people have different recommendations that'd be welcome.

I initially had a different GPU but changed to this one because of price. Visual performance is not a huge deal for me(like game settings, I run medium now and its k), rn my pc is quite awful on all fronts and I care mostly about speed of things loading and frame rate I guess.

I'd appreciate any Case recommendations as I found that one a bit ugly but it was the closest I could find to what was recommended in the other build I based this on.

GTX 1050 ti 4gb GPU

EVGA 450w 80+ bronze PSU

Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.

This is my father's build. This is our first PC build. We put it together last night, but could not get it to turn on.

List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.

We looked at the following to make sure they were snugly attached to the mobo:

20+4 connection

CPU 2x4 pin connection

CPU fan connection

Sys_fan connection

F_Panel connectors for the case

I tried bridging the Power pins on the motherboard with a screwdriver (Is that a good idea?), but still no power.

I did a CMOS reset (?) not sure if I did it properly, though.

We tried multiple outlets in the house.

We even pulled out a voltmeter to check if the system is getting power. We confirmed that there is DC voltage going to the 20+4 connector across the pins in accordance with the motherboard manual.

Post relevant photos of build/parts here.

Can post pictures if necessary...

Any help is appreciated. I don't mean to sound like we know anything about PCs, but we sure would like to learn.

Newly finished build, need help with RAM speeds pc building site custom pc builder

Troubleshooting Help:

What is your parts list? Consider formatting your parts list.

Gigabyte AB350 Gaming (not Gaming 3)

G.SKILL Flare X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) Model F4-3200C14D-16GFX (was supposed to be great with Ryzen and Gigabyte boards)

Ryzen 7 1700 with stock cooler

EVGA 1080 TI SC2

Corsair M300 M.2 SSD

Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.

I cannot get my RAM speeds above 2400 MHz. I can overclock the CPU in the bios by entering a number and saving and exiting and that will stick. However, when I do the same for RAM (using X.M.P) I can see my number entered (e.g. 3000 MHz) but when I save and exit and restart into bios it stays at 2400 MHz

List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.

I have updated the bios via the Gigabyte App tool to F5 which is apparently the most recent.

Post relevant photos of build/parts here.

This is my mobo, just to be clear

Provide any additional details you wish below.

This may not be the place for this, but I finished this build (my first) about 3 days ago and have been tinkering with it since then. So far so good, except for the RAM. I know the CPU and boards have issues, but it seems most people are able to get significantly about 2400Mhz...

[Build Help] I've built my first computer, yay! Some software questions. pc building site custom pc builder

My build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GTTLTH

(Currently minus the SSD)

I've completed it, it turns on, hurray!

A bunch of CD's came with various parts. However, as the eagle eye among you have noticed, I have no CD Drive. Trying to figure out what software I need to download from where to get the same effect, control panel, etc.

I've been googling, and the best I've gotten for the motherboard is: https://www.asus.com/us/support/Download/1/50/8/5/dbHksGBreBRGHFBy/45/

For the corsair parts : http://www.corsair.com/en-us/landing/corsair-link-dashboard#page=download

For the GPU : It's my understanding that I don't need anything

Also, it seems to be running fairly hot, although I have no way of telling how hot right now. How can I double check that the cooling is indeed cooling properly?

Thank you

Re-positioning already mounted AIO. pc building site custom pc builder

Troubleshooting Help:

Corsair H115i, Fractal Design R5, Crosshair Hero VI, Ryzen 1800x

Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.

I ordered a PC build after my spesifications through a retailer who would assemble it as well, as I'd rather have them assemble it than attempt it myself, although they went and overlooked my requests for the AIO mounting, I wanted it placed in the front of the case, but instead they ended up with it top mounted. - It's not as simple as to just re-locate the radiator as the 'CPU hub' is mounted 90 degrees clockwise, with the two tubes coming out of the very bottom. At least I don't think that'd allow for a front radiator mount with the tube reach, if someone can confirm that it does, with it already mounted to the CPU in such a fashion, please, correct me. - But say if it doesn't, how do I best go about replacing it? Do I need to re-apply new termal paste, in that case which kind? Or do I just unscrew, rotate, screw it back in? Etc.?

[Build Help] 940$/800€ build for gaming, would love advice! pc building site custom pc builder

Hey yall.. so Id need some help/advice from you. I want to built my first pc ever and I mostly want to play with it. Im on a 1920/1080 monitor and would love to play some newer games on medium with a steady 60 fps. Especially Rocket League (which shouldnt be that big of a deal), but like I said, new games too. Also it would be really nice if AutoCad (needs 8gb ram) would run on it and if I could get a second screen in the future.

I actually wanted to spent around 800€/~940$, but im looking into this stuff for a couple of months now, and since Im not that firm and everyone tells me something different, Im not sure if thats enough anymore. Ill need an OS and KB/Mouse with it and thats kinda breaking the limit a bit. Im going to buy my parts in germany and have put together this build for now:

Partpicker Build

So Im not sure about anything anymore. I really dont know what Id need and what would just be nice to have. Any opinions on where I could save some money would be greatly appreciated. Im especially not sure about the graphics card and the power supply.

Another thing would be the Ryzen. If I get it right, Ill have to put it on the mobo myself, but I read that its not that difficult. Is it really doable for someone whos never done that following step by step videos? What else would I need to assemble everything (thermal grease eg?).

Thanks guys, really appreciate what youre doing here!

have a good one.

i7-7700k Cooling question pc building site custom pc builder

Cooling question:

I have an i7-7700k OC to 5ghz. I'm currently using a Kraken x62 to cool it, and my average temps when gaming (Witcher 3, GTA V) are around 60-75 degrees sometimes spiking up to 83 degrees for maybe 30 seconds. While I'm happy with the temps for the most part (may consider delidding), I'm not happy with the x62 because of the buggy CAM software. It's memory heavy, it stops detecting the x62 at the most inconvenient times, and the data leaks.

Should I get the Corsair H115i? For those who have it, what are your experiences with Corsair Link? If I de-lid, would a good air cooler like the Noctua NH-D15 be good enough for the 5ghz 1.37v OC?

Thanks in advance!

What's with the high wattage on PSUs? (It's been a long time) pc building site custom pc builder

Hey reddit, it's been a while since I built a rig (Q6600 so around '07). Since then, I only had iMacs (yea I know).

However, while looking for parts and getting back to PC to build a comfy mITX, I found that most PSUs still have really high (500W or higher) wattage.

Why is that? Adding together current entry level hardware I max out at about 200W (+25% for bronze PSUs).

Is there something I am missing? Or is a 250-300W PSU actually good enough for me? Cheers and thanks in advance!

First build, won't start? pc building site custom pc builder

When we press the power button, the heatsink fan will start for about two seconds and then stop, and the motherboard will light up from white to red. There will be a small noise that indicates something happened, but other than that, nada.

We've taken it apart and put it back together twice now. We aren't sure where we are going wrong. We thought it was the case to main board connectors where the power button connected because when we fixed that it did start! But then we put it all back together and it wouldn't start again. Hey Everyone,

So I have been looking into building a PC recently and I know what specs I need to run the games at my preferred settings and to stream. I am just worried of connecting the wrong wires, bending cpu pins etc...so I am curious if it is easy to make these mistakes.

Also I want to make sure the pieces I order are all compatible. As I am not positive how to know if my power supply can handle my GPU etc...

Quite frankly idk what im doing and just need some advice, these are the specs I will be looking to buy.

Build Pictures: http://imgur.com/a/3APWq

A few notes: I won't bug you with all the details, it's all working as expected, but there is a need to point out a few things.

Firstly, although all the fans in this build are under 25dB you can still clearly hear them in a fairly quiet environment, do not expect notebook-like silence. The most noisy part is definitely the front intake of the NZXT Noctis 450 case, but it's not something you'll notice when playing a song, movie, or a game.

Secondly, boot times. I first made a mistake installing Windows in MBR disk style instead of GPT, but I made a note of the boot times with everything set up that way, it was 19.5 seconds. After correcting my mistake and eagerly waiting to see how fast the Ultra Fast Boot is on the ASRock x370 Taichi motherboard with Samsung's 960 EVO M.2 SSD I was in paradise with my now 8.8 seconds of boot time.

Unfortunately the very convenient and pretty reliable tool for overclocking on ASRock motherboard called A-Tuning (ASRock Tuning Utility) was not able to start in Ultra Fast Boot Mode, so if you want to use it you'll have to suffer through the 16.5 seconds boot time. You can overclock with your BIOS, but in Ultra Fast Boot you cannot access it unless you clear your CMOS, so it's either:

  • having your PC constantly overclocked with 8.8 seconds boot

  • having your PC clocked normally with 8.8 seconds boot and pain in the butt changing clock speed

  • having your PC with 16.5 seconds boot and the convenience of overclocking with a simple slider

Also, forgot to mention it, A-Tuning achieves 4GHz on R7 1700X with RAM clocked to 3200Hz.

I'll include benchmark results if you'd like, just tell me what you want to see.

How far can you overclock a single fan GTX 1060 6GB? pc building site custom pc builder

I recently got a GTX 1060 6GB for stupidly cheap which is why it's only single fan and not multiple. I want to overclock if possible but I am completely aware that a single fan means I won't be able to overclock much. If I can't overclock at all that's fine i'm not too bothered but I want to get this PC running to it's full potential as it's my PC now but in a week i'm giving it to my younger brother so he can get into PC gaming when I go to uni.
