Below are the components I decided on. I went pretty high end on this build. You can get nearly the same performance for much cheaper. Also, this was my first AMD build.

As you can see I have no cpu cooler listed above. Queue headache*** Finding a cpu cooler was near impossible for me. Nothing was compatible and stores didn't sell everything. I have fry's and microcenter nearby. I like to see what I am buying first. Personal preference.
Found no AIO cooler that was compatible with am4 socket. and found one air cooler that was am4 ready. of course that cooler was a better best desktop computer gaming  for a 70 watt tdp chip. go figure. I highly prefer liquid anyways. But couldn't find one. So I settled on a EKWB products for a custom loop as they were the only one I could find with am4 brackets available.
So first custom water loop. cpu only. gpu is on air via twin frozr by msi. And must say, the custom water loop is performing very well. So far it was worth all the headaches and nervousness.
BUILD COMPLETED. now time to overclock and deal with the dreaded memory compatibility fun.
So as you probably know. Ryzen is having a tough pc build 4k time with memory clocks and timing and some ram just wont get to its stated ratings. I started with 32gb of corsair vengeance. Could not get it over 2133 mhz. After some disappointment and confirming that my pc wasnt even posting. I decided to try some premium ram. Although I'm under the impression all ram from corsair is pretty solid. But I went to their website and found some Ram that they said was Ryzen ready. So I got the dominator platinum 3000. I got them to 2933 mhz.
Here are some pictures! http://imgur.com/a/9hmCs
This post is probably extremely hard to read. Apologies. Running some benchmarks and tuning stuff as I do this post. I can post some benchmarks if anyone is interested!

CPU stuck to heatsink, Need alternatives to getting it thermal paste off. pc building site custom pc builder

My 8120 is basically cemented to the stock cooler heatsink. It still stuck after 3 hours of fiddling around with it.

Things I have tried:
  1. Coating the edges with 99% rubbing alcohol
  2. Hair Dryer
  3. Dental Floss

I heard another thing one can do is to soak the CPU gaming pc build 4k completely in rubbing alcohol and waiting 5 minutes to see if it dissolves the thermal paste.

AMD Wraith Spire LED Problem pc building site custom pc builder

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this so I'm sorry if I'm not allowed to, but I have a problem with my wraith spires LED. I have the MSI B350 Tomahawk paired with the 1700 Ryzen. My problem is that I am trying to use the MSI Gaming App to change the LED color to purple best pc build 4k , but it won't do it. I literally press the purple option, and I get green. Is this a known problem with the software? Are there other softwares I can use? Thanks!

Any good MOBO for ryzen 5 1600? pc building site custom pc builder

So I'm currently buying the parts for my first PC build and I was hearing that a lot of the boards that are currently out aren't supporting ram speeds at 3200. Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense considering ryzen needs faster speeds to perform better. Are there any boards that are reputable and will allow ryzen to perform to its fullest potential?

Stream / gaming pc building site custom pc builder

Hey guys,

I'm currently using an MSI RX480 8GB / i3-7100.

I want to start streaming the games I play. I can't decide whether to get an i7-7700K or Ryzen 5 1600.

I would like to stream at 720/60, and game at 60+ FPS on my 144hz monitor. What would you go with? I'd obviously like to stick with Intel so I don't have to change my motherboard (B250), but don't mind buying a new MOBO/Ryzen if it's needed.

I'd also like to know if the 1600 will handle it or will I need the 1700.

Is it feasible/reasonable to move my operating system from my HDD to my brand new SSD? pc building site custom pc builder

Picked up one of these bad boys to have a few of my core games on it, but especially to have my OS on it. Thing is, I've had my current 2TB HDD since 2014 with it having my OS on there since then too. I really, really, really don't want to buy a new OS because fuck that price for one lol. Any help? I googled it but the top thing was a program I'm unsure if I can trust, especially handling my OS's migration.

Thanks!

Small and Quiet ITX Build pc building site custom pc builder

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

I have.

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

I'm looking for something small and quiet that I can use for high end gaming. I haven't built a pc in years, so jumping back in on an ITX build might be too much. If so, please set me straight.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

The idea is to play on an ultra wide 3440 x 1440 monitor and occasionally on a 4k tv set.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

Would really like to come in under $2,000

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

The motherboard has really simple "game boost" one-click overclocks, which puts the cpu at 3.7 GHz, and the ram at 2667. Adjusting settings on games, I can consistently have it putting out 60+ frames, and have it looking better than my xbox one.

And finally, the pictures of course. (Please disregard the keyboard)

Upgrading from Win 7 HDD to Win 10 SSD. Questions. pc building site custom pc builder

So i'm building the best desktop computer gaming but still want to use my HDD since it has all my games on it and other shit (plus it's bigger).
Few questions:
I know to set the boot drive to the new SSD after i install the new Win 10 on it. Will there be any problems when I eventually plug in the HDD that still has Win 7 on it? It's wont break anything right? As long as boot is set to the SSD?
I can still run programs (chrome, discord, etc.) from the HDD correct?
If I wanted to move a program from the HDD to the SSD (chrome for example), would I need a special program?
I know steam can run games from different libraries on different drives. So do I just install a fresh version onto the SSD and look up the old library on the HDD drive?
I can make shortcuts to programs on the HDD onto the SSD's new desktop correct? Or do you need to do something special?

Upgrading 5400RPM HDD to a 5400 RPM SSHD: Worth it? Best method of file and OS migration? pc building site custom pc builder

Hi guys

I posted yesterday asking about a possible solution to my disk holding back my laptop. My disk maxes out at 100% when my CPU and RAM are running at less than 25% capacity (Thanks u/jamvanderloeff and u/UtherArgas for the help).

Specs: Processor: Intel i7-4720 (2.6 - 3.2GHz) Memory: 16GB (1836MHz DDR3L) Graphics: NVidia GTX960M HDD: 1TB (5400RPM)

I've decided that my most suitable and affordable option is to upgrade my HDD to an SSHD, where i can expect a 35% increase in disk performance... apparently.

Im looking at getting a Seagate 1TB FireCuda ST1000LX015 SATA (5400RPM, 6GB/s, 8GB SSD, 128MB Cache, 2.5", 7mm). 7200 RPM is not an option as the SSHDs that spin that fast are 3.5". Seagate say that a 5400 RPM SSHD will give better performance than a 7200 RPM HDD though.

I've read some how tos and seen some youtube videos about migrating from from old to new storage media / cloning my HDD. But I'm a little apprehensive.

My drive is partitioned into OS (C:) and Data (D:) drives. Is that likely to cause any problems? Is it possible to move all my data and operating system over easily and safely, so that I don't have to reinstall software and my files are all in the same place?

If so what is the best software to use? (free or cheap) I've come across Seagate Disk Wizard and Reflect by Macrium.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is something I need to do but it's all a bit scary, hahaha.

Graduation gift for nephew pc building site custom pc builder

Hi there. Can anybody help me get cheaper? My brother and I are building a graduation gift for my Nephew. (Graduating from High School and going to college) Would love some input to see if I can get it any lower. I do want this to be somewhat future proof as it needs to last him through college. WIFI is a must. It baffles my mind why more MOBOs do not have WIFI by default.

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/minibeas/saved/d4kK8d

My parents are going to be getting this for his monitor. I am still not convinced of the Ultrawide master race, but this is pretty affordable.

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2913WM-29-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B00ADHLSMO/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&ref_=psd_mlt_nbc_B00E26IRA8_r

I will be buying all of these parts off of amazon... yeah, sue me, but their return policy is unmatched, and I get free two day shipping. This build needs to be finished within the next 2-3 weeks. I would love to trim an extra $100-$200 off of this build, but it really needs to run games at the monitors native resolution. We are also trying to get him interested in IT/programming.

[Build Help] Upgrade or build a completely new PC? pc building site custom pc builder

So here are my current specs -

Mobo: Z77A-G45

CPU: i5 3570K @ 4.2GHz

Ram: DDR3 8GB

GPU: 660Ti 2GB

OS: Windows 10

So i have the money to buy and replace every part of this computer and possibly give this computer to a family member. But i'm not too sure if it's really worth rebuilding the whole thing. If i were to just upgrade some parts i'd most likely want to replace the ram with DDR4 ram and the GPU with a 1060/1070.

Is it worth rebuilding the whole thing?

I'm completely lost pc building site custom pc builder

I should start this post off by saying I have a knowledge of what each part does, but I am clueless with how to comprehend speeds. Also this took a few years to put together, and I don't have as much money to upgrade as I used to, so I'm looking for just one or two things that could help hopefully under $500.

I'm looking for some advice on my computer. I built it in 2014, and for working on papers and just general browsing, it does a great job. However, I have always been held back when it comes to modern games, and I have no clue what to change in my PC to run graphic intensive games at a high fps at 1080p.

My real question:

  • What can I do to make sure I don't have under 20fps anymore for games?

Any help at all is appreciated, below is my current computer.

Thanks!

What MOBO/CPU should I upgrade to? pc building site custom pc builder

Hey all! Looking to upgrade some parts of my PC. I got this computer as a gift 5 or 6 years ago from CyberPowerPC. I've changed some parts around throughout the years but my PC is definitely due for some upgrades. I plan to eventually upgrade everything as I get more money, but plan to do it over the next couple of months.

This is my current build, and I think I should consider replacing my MOBO and getting a new CPU since my MOBO is pretty crappy. Hoping to get better FPS for games like Overwatch and such at a resolutions of 1920x1080. Hoping to spend no more than $250 on these parts!

My current build is as follows:

MOBO: MSI 760GM-P34(FX)

CPU:AMD FX 8120

GPU: GTX 760

PSU:Corsair TX650

Storage: PNY 240GB SSD & 1TB Western Digital HDD

Memory: 8GB of DDR3

Would also love advice on what I should prioritize upgrading and what parts get the most bang for their buck.

Provide any additional details you wish below.

I want some general feedback about the build. First of all I know that many of you will suggest a SSD though my plan is to get it next payday so I don't cut too many corners on the GPU/CPU. Second I was just wondering what are the differences between the diffident 580's offered? There are a lot of them on amazon, even from the same manufacturers with the same specs like Sapphires. Other than that any other feedback would be awesome. This is my first build.

Thank you very much for your help.

What type of RAM should i use for my Ryzen 5 1600 build? pc building site custom pc builder

I have read a lot of conflicting things and i am not sure what to go with. I don't know too much about the effect of different timing with the processor but i heard even numbers were better. I also heard this may all be resolved with updates. I also heard DDR4 3200 was the best with the chip. My MOBO only has 2 slots and i was thinking this G.SKILL RAM which would leave me room to ever upgrade to 2 sticks if i wanted to.

Any help/recs on RAM would be appreciated.

[Complete] An all-around beast! (Ryzen 1600X) pc building site custom pc builder

Pictures first!
So a while ago I decided to finally build a best desktop computer gaming . I wanted to build a budget computer that would do just what I needed to. My budget was about ~$600. But.. that quickly became ~$1500... I wanted it built in February.. but.. that became April.. (thanks R5...).
I do a lot of programming and I wasn't really into PC gaming, but I wanted to get into it. And when I started parts shopping, (November 2016) Intel still ruled, and the 6700k was my processor of choice. As I got more and more into the tech world, I heard about Ryzen. Awww maaaan, what a holy grail for me. Close to 6700k performance for games and close to 6900k performance for multithreaded stuff like video editing and for the physics simulations I code for my job! I was so excited.,, I rode that hype train like everyone else. It was exhilarating. I finally got it and I've never been so happy with a purchase.
Anyways, my parts lists (with and without peripherals) are below. I get about 150 fps on the ultra preset in Rainbow Six Siege. I don't have any other real fps numbers, as that's the only AAA game I play currently. But here are my CPU-Z scores.

I was "gifted" a graphics card and was looking to make my first build. This is a mockup up I've came up with and consulted a couple of buddies about. I pretty much just picked parts that looked cheap but good enough and that were compatible for the build. Just looking for some more input before I pull the trigger and ascend.
