EVGA 1080ti FE Mailing List / Other Brand Warranties? pc building site custom pc builder

I have an EVGA 1080ti SC2, but recently decided to instead go for a new water cooled build. It looks like the card isn't compatible with most water blocks, so I'm looking to return it and purchase a 1080ti FE. EVGA is supposedly the only brand that openly covers water cooling modifications in their warranty. Seems these are incredibly

Questions:

1) Is there anything that tracks sites for 1080ti FE sales? Basically anything that'd scour Amazon and others for when they get more stock?

2) Does anyone have experience dealing with RMA'ing previously water-cooled cards from other brands? Did they honor it? https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/5zs74l/a_response_from_msi_in_watercooling_1080ti_fe_and/ looks promising for MSI, and their card is generally in stock.

New Builder pc building site custom pc builder

Hello. I am a first-time builder looking to get into the PC community. I am looking to build a mid-grade, all-purpose PC that can also run games at 1080p, 60fps for games like Overwatch. I am purchasing parts in the USA. My budget is around $500. I also have no idea what to buy so if you could help me by sending some links to parts, not on eBay, and what driver to install and where to get it because I have no idea, that would be great! Thank you so much if you can help me!

Looking into new PC pc building site custom pc builder

New to the whole reddit thing, unsure if i can even ask this here since it's build a pc, but i want to buy a new pc because my current one is on it's last legs and has some issues, prebuilt as it's been some time since i've built one and i have a budget of $2000-$3000 to use, i've been going over a selection from a local store and got an idea of what i want, but would like a professional opinion from people get around building pc's often.

I game a fair bit and would like to try streaming and want a sturdy pc.

could anyone go over the pc's within my budget and tell me why i should get a certain one if that isn't too much to ask please.

Thinking about building a new PC. Help me pick which parts from my old one I should keep or change and rate my choice of parts for the new one. pc building site custom pc builder

Hello everyone. So I built my first PC around 3-4 years ago and I think it might be time for either a few upgrades or a new PC altogether.

About 95% of my current PC and the new one will be used for video games and the other 5% for different office applications. I don't record or stream or anything like that but I do heavily mod many of my games. My target resolution is 2560x1440 but I can live with 1920x1080. I want to get a smooth 60 FPS for games as right now I fluctuate around 35-50 for most games on medium-high settings. I would like to use the highest settings I can in games for things like textures and lighting. I don't really want this new build to go over $1200, but a little over is ok I suppose. My current PC cost around $1100. I'm purchasing all of my parts in the USA.

What I really want out of this thread is for you to look at my current parts list and tell me what it is that definitely needs to be replaced and what I can keep and possibly use in my new PC. I would also like for you to review the parts i've chosen for the new PC and tell me if there are better alternatives/better prices for basically the same thing.

I'll be listing my current PC parts on top while the new PC parts will be below the current ones.

CPU:

Current - AMD FX-8350

New - Intel Core i5-7600k ($227.88)

Comments: I'm pretty much sold on the i5-7600k and from all the reviews I have read, there really isn't anything better for the price. I really don't want to go over $200 for the processor.

CPU Fan:

Current - ???

New - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 ($34.88)

Comments: I have no idea what my current CPU fan is, but I know I bought it pretty cheap and the new one I listed has fantastic reviews and a great price so I thought I might as well replace it.

Case:

Current - NZXT Source 530 ATX Full Tower

New - ???

Comments: This is the first part on the list that I think I should consider not replacing. Not because I really like the case or anything, but just because I'm trying to save money where I can. It doesn't have any damage or anything like that so tell me if I really need to get a new one or if I should stick with this one.

Power Supply:

Current - EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2

New - ???

Comments: This is the next part that might not need replacing. From what I've read, this is a pretty good power supply that can still keep up in 2017. Let me know what you think, however.

Motherboard:

Current - ASRock 990FX Extreme9 (Sapphire)

New - ???

Comments: This is one of the parts I really need some expert opinions on here. I don't have a clue what a good motherboard would be for a gaming PC or even what makes a good motherboard good. I have seen good things about the Samsung 960 Pro but it seems a bit pricey and reccomended for recording and not so much gaming. I would really like a good reccomendation for this because I seriously don't have a clue.

Video Card:

Current - AMD Radeon R9 200 Series

New - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 ($549.99)

Comments: I've used my AMD card for a long time and I've noticed it's just not keeping up the way I want it to with modern games. I've experienced firsthand some of the many problems people have complained about using an AMD card with games. I've read some fantastic reviews for NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1080 and I don't really know if there's any better option besides the Ti. I'm already pretty hesistant about spending upwards of $500 on my graphics card alone, but this is probably the most important thing in my build that needs an upgrade. I just don't know what brand of 1080 is best. I've seen MSI and Asus make these cards.

Storage:

Current - ADATA SP 600

New - Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5 7200RPM Internal ($48.48)

Comments: So I am a fool who only got 250GB of storage the first time around. I quickly realized my mistake when I found that I only had around 100GB or so to install games on. This time I definitely want a TB of storage. I know the difference between Solid State drives and mechanical drives but you'll have to tell me how important that difference really is. Most Solid State drives I have seen are expensive and usually don't hold a TB. I have seen some excellent reviews for the Western Digital Caviar Blue and it seems to have everything I could want, but the price tag kind of worries me. I should be overjoyed for only $50 for a hard drive, but this seems like a very little amount and makes me think this drive is low end.

Memory:

Current - XPG ADATA (2x8GB) (Red)

New - G.Skill Ripjaws 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200 ($135.99)

Comments: I don't know the exact model of the memory sticks but I know what I listed about them. I really like having 16GB of memory and would like to get something similar. I may not need to upgrade this part at all. Tell me whether or not I need to and some good alternatives if I do. I've heard some great things about G.SKill Ripjaws but let me know if there's anything similar but better.

My monitor is an Acer XG270HU 27" 1ms 144HZ and my keyboard and mouse are some CMStorm combo I'm pretty happy with. I have an optical drive and an OS and all the other peripherals.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read my thread and give me suggestions! Hopefully I can find everything for decent prices by the end of the year.

Gaming chairs - my investigation (is it a conspiracy?) pc building site custom pc builder

So, I'm in the market for a new chair for my computer desk, and the colors and fancy styling of gamer chairs caught my attention. Then I began digging...

First, just some discussion on the ergonomics of gaming chairs. I noticed most gaming chairs appear to have pretty straight backs and despite marketing claims that doesn't really seem to be very ergonomic in shape. Most gaming chairs seem to rely on strap-on pillows for lumbar and head support, which doesn't really seem like a great idea and just seems like a half-assed bolt-on to address a less-than-ideal back piece shape. YouTuber HardwareCanucks discusses the ergonomic shape (or lack there-of) at the end of this video.

Anyway, on to the (maybe, possibly?) conspiracy...

I noticed that there didn't seem to be much variation in the design of gamer chairs, with many models from competing manufacturers appearing nearly identical. Just check out this sea of sameness on Newegg.

Reviews of gamer chairs largely seemed to be either lacking in detail or overly exuberant (to the point of being suspicious). On top of that, almost no reviewers seemed to be familiar with real quality office chairs, so the point of reference for the reviews is rather off.

I did stumble across this hilariously rant by YouTuber TFI about a bad experience with a certain well-known brand. This guy just got one flawed product after another. I'm sure some viewers will feel he was being a tad over picky at some points, but I think it's a fair expectation when dropping several hundred dollars on a chair for it not to appear to be more cheaply made than a $100 Walmart chair. Anyway, he followed that review up with this one of a competing brand. Once again, he found a lot of signs of poor or questionable workmanship.

Anyway, after watching those videos I did start paying more attention to detail in other gamer chair review videos and reading through the comments on them and noticed a trend of commentators mentioning similar signs of cheap manufacture and questionable workmanship.

And then there is this on Alibaba. Most variations of gamer chairs can be found somewhere in that list. Now, I'm aware that cheap Chinese knock-offs are pretty commonplace. However, I'm wondering if this is more than that...

Low stock on most gamer chair makers, no major stores carry them, many of them seem to be just drop-shipped, the uniformity between makers that just seem to be the same parts assembled in different ways or with different upholstery, the products are marketed primarily towards young, image-conscious, inexperienced buyers. Hmm... Is it possible many (or maybe even most) of these gamer chair companies are all buying their chairs from the same cheap Chinese manufacturer (or a small subset of manufacturers) and then turning around and selling them for a huge markup to a gullible target audience while making false claims about their origin? I'm not saying that is the case, but I'm becoming suspicious.

TL;DR - are you possibly getting the same chair from the same cheap Chinese shadow manufacturer that may be supplying nearly all of the gamer chairs no matter which brand you buy?

Thoughts or feedback, especially from anyone who has owned chairs by different brands? Am I totally off-base? Or does anyone else find this whole industry rather...questionable?

ATX-sized cases without any drive bays? Fully M.2 now and on the market for a new case. pc building site custom pc builder

Hey all,

I'm removing the last SATA drive from my computer and I'm wondering if there are any ATX cases on the market without drive bays. I would ideally also like it to be a small-ish case where the motherboard lays horizontally, but I'm not even having much luck finding cases without a large number of drives bays.

ATX is an absolute must because I run with HEDT-grade hardware. I'm currently running an ASUS X99-PRO motherboard, and may be upgrading to AMD Threadripper later. Unfortunately, this means that there's not much choice with regards to reasonably-sized motherboards.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

Storage: Samsung 950 PRO 256gb M.2 || Seagate 8tb Archive

GPU: 2x ROG STRIX GeForce GTX 970 2-way SLI

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850W

Machine works fine with Sky Lake installed, but with Kaby Lake installed, it only detects a GPU in the top PCIe slot. Initially, I tested both GPU's in the top slot to ensure they were good, then tested each PCIe slot for fear that I'd borked a slot.

I updated BIOS to 7.20 before installing Kaby Lake, then booted to windows and noticed only one GPU was being detected. Afterward, I tinkered a bit with the slots, then re-installed Sky Lake, cleared CMOS, re-installed 7.20 and all PCIe slots are working, SLI is working properly and the machine is back to normal.

At this point, I'm out of my depth in trying to get both 970's functioning with Kaby Lake installed. Any help would be appreciated.

Making the move to mini itx pc building site custom pc builder

I currently have a Phantek P400s and like it but due to a move need to downsize big time. I'm leaning towards a mini itx build and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Thermaltake suppressor f1. I'll be moving all existing parts minus the CPU cooler and motherboard over into the smaller build and I had a few questions.

Build- https://pcpartpicker.com/list/v4zd7h

1) will the move from a z170 to a z270 mother board be an issue?

2) will the kraken x42 fit on the inside of the case with the 200mm fan installed?

3) silence is going to be key as the case will be sitting ON the desk so am I better off going air cooled?

4) I'll have some time on my hands to do the swap, so am I crazy to try and shoehorn a custom loop in there? I've never done a water cooler build and had plans to do one in a mid tower case. Might be biting off more than I can chew inside such a small space.

5) will the MB swap screw up my windows license?

Thanks for the input.

Unable to open bios pc building site custom pc builder

This is my first time building a PC. I watched a YouTube tutorial step by step to make sure I plugged everything in correctly or at least I think I have. It powers on, but I got the ol fans spin but no display. I've checked and my RAM is seated fully as well as my video card. I've checked to make sure my motherboard is getting power. It has the 24 pin and then a 4 pin. My video card had no pci-e power port so I'm guessing it just runs off power from the motherboard. I've tried connecting my display from both the motherboard and the video card.

RX480 Usage Drops Frequently Leading to FPS Drops pc building site custom pc builder

Troubleshooting Help:

cpu: i3-6100 gpu: RX480 16gb ram

Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.

Whenever i'm gaming, my gpu usage tends to drop around a lot. This isn't really a problem for less demanding games such as league, but for more demanding games like black desert its causing my fps to spike every time the GPU usage drops. I've also been monitoring my CPU usage and it never gets close to 100%. In addition, both temperatures for GPU and CPU are fine, neither ever go above ~60 degrees.

List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.

Tried clean installing GPU drivers, i'm not really sure what else to do. I've searched around google and many posts suggest CPU bottlenecking, but my CPU usage is always hovering around 50-60% usage when i notice gpu usage drops.

1080 TI can't break 40 FPS in Overwatch? pc building site custom pc builder

Troubleshooting Help:

Parts List

Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.

I recently bought a 1080TI, to replace my Crossfire R9 280xs. I seem to be running into some really weird problems. When I swapped the cards, I used DDU to remove my AMD drivers, installed the 1080 TI, and downloaded the new drivers.

Everything was fine and dandy, but I did notice any increase in performance at all. If anything, it's worse than before.

After running some tests and monitoring my card using ASUS GPU Tweak II and MSI Afterburner, I've notice my Core Clock will not stay above 1500 at all. During Overwatch game play, I'm sitting at under 300 core clock and 100% GPU usage. Is it just a monitoring glitch?

What is causing my GPU to throttle so bad? The only thing I haven't done is a clean windows install to clean up the registry and any hidden problems. I'm in the process of saving important documents before I do that. It shows the card as

  Display device : GeForce GTX 1080 Ti on GP102-A GPU Display driver : 382.53 BIOS : 86.02.39.00.54

So I wouldn't think someone swapped the cards on me by any means. **Here is a snip of an Overwatch game. You can see me launch, get a quick bounce in Core Clock, then stuck at a solid 280. The last spike is me shutting off the game. I'm just at a lose for words here. If you need any information, please let me know.

After two weeks of building and tearing down :o pc building site custom pc builder

I finally "finished" my first build :D This subreddit and its discord channel was hella helpful in this process, especially since I'm terrible at making choices.

Pics: http://imgur.com/a/fYsTY

I originally started with a completely different build, with a 1080, MSI M3 Motherboard, H60 cooler. Built it two weeks ago, but never settled because it didn't feel like it had the OOMPH so I tore it down yesterday, changed/bought new parts, and redid everything today :D

The second time is still tedious as hell but felt way more fluid than the first time.

I re-applied the stock CPU cooler about 3 times, idk if that affects anything.

My bios and drivers are all updated as well.

Running windows 10 pro

Freezes were experienced during the driver installations

Any help is appreciated. These are all the notable things that happened within the last 5 hours of me building.

Brand new Ryzen 1800x build keeps overheating and shutting itself down. pc building site custom pc builder

Troubleshooting Help:

OK, so my friend just got all the parts for his new Ryzen 1800x build and I put it together for him, everything was going smooth until the temp suddenly shot up and crashed. The PC would not even turn back on until we let it cool for awhile.

What is your parts list? Consider formatting your parts list.

NZXT H630 Asus Strix X370-f Ryzen 1800x @ stock settings Corsair H115i Corsair LPX 3000 Mhz EVGA P2 750w Asus Strix GTX 970 (from old PC) 120 GB SSD (from old PC) 1 TB WD Black (from old PC)

Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.

So everything in this build except the GPU is and hard drives is brand new, no hiccups putting it all together. Everything seemed fine until we booted up a game. Checking the temps with Corsair Link and Speccy it says the CPU is around 100-120 f idle, while playing a game the temps didn't really increase at all until after 10 minutes it suddenly ramped up to 170 f and shut down. We thought the aio might not be connected properly but everything is connected like the instructions and videos we watched said. After the second shut down, we decided not to risk it anymore, but I did notice the system didn't shut down entirely, the screen just went black and I also notice the fans on the GTX 970 weren't spinning except when the PC booted up. I read online the fans don't kick in unless the card gets hot, but I'm not sure if this is true and I'm wondering if it's the GPU that's overheating?

List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.

So what we've done so far is checked all the cables, tried different fan headers on the mobo, and made sure the cooler was seated properly. The cooler is using pre-applied thermal paste and we just wanted to make sure it wasn't something else before cleaning and applying more.

Post relevant photos of build/parts here.

Replace this text with your answer.

Provide any additional details you wish below.

Sorry if my formatting is bad or if I didn't explain very well, I had to leave the PC as is and head to work so I'm really just rushing to post this hoping anyone might have some advice for when I get off. I wanna say the CPU cooler isn't working properly, but we've tested all the connections and nothing really feels hot until the spike in temp and crash.

Interpret 2 Monitors as one pc building site custom pc builder

Hi,

My Razer Blade Laptop can only do video out through the graphics card with HDMI 2.0. There is USB-C on-board but doing video out using that is only through Intel Integrated graphics.

This is a bit of a long shot question but I have 2 1080p Samsung LS24F350FHNXZA monitors and my current setup is:

  Laptop -(HDMI out)-> Monitor 1 Laptop -(USB-C to HDMI)-> Monitor 2

So I have two screens being ran by two diff graphic cards (integrated & dedicated) ideally I want to run both screens off the dedicated graphics card. Is this possible in any way?

  • Anything using the USB-C port will use the integrated graphics card, it's how the laptop was designed unfortunately.
  • I can't do HDMI to DP and then use Daisy Chaining
  • Is there such device that can combine 2+ screens to act as one giant screen so that it only takes 1 input for n outputs. (Ex 2 1080p screens would be interpreted as a 3840x1080p monitor, basically a "DIY" ultrawide)
  • Any way to render the 2nd screen also on the dedicated GPU and then send the data through the USB-C video out? (I don't think that's even possible?)

The only solution I know there is is to buy a Razer core and then another GPU so then I can get many video out options but I don't have the budget for that.

Any ideas?

Are these temps acceptable? pc building site custom pc builder

Hey all! I just built my very first gaming PC, and I must say for a budget build I couldn't be happier with it! Just a quick question about CPU and GPU temperatures. I didn't have much time to monitor the temps thoroughly tonight, but I played about 30-40 mins worth of Overwatch matches on ultra settings, and during those games my GPU (EVGA GTX 1060) temp sat consistently around 70 with the rare spike to 74, while my CPU cores (Pentium G4560) were floating around 50-54. Are these temperatures up to par? Since I'm obv not overclocking with this build, is more lengthy temperature testing necessary or does this give me a good enough idea of what things will normally run at? Thanks!

NZXT Hue+ and NZXT Aer RGB Fans pc building site custom pc builder

Can someone explain how I'm going to set these all up.

I ordered the Hue+ with the led strips, as well as x2 140 mm Aer RGB fans, and one 120 mm Aer RGB fan. I'm really confused as to how I will setup the fans and connect them to the Hue+, in addition to the led strips. I know it has two channels, but how will three fans be connected, as well as the LED strips all into two channels?

Do I even plug the fans into the Hue+ or just my Mobo? Or both?

My motherboard is the ASUS STRIX ROG z270e, and my case is the NZXT s340 Elite. I planned on putting the two 140 mm fans on the top, the 120 mm fan on the back, and my Kraken x62 w/ radiator on the front. Also, does my Kraken connect to the Hue+ too then? That way everything is controlled by the CAM software?

Is there something I'm missing or somewhere I can read how to set up all the connecting/cabling.

Build a pc? pc building site custom pc builder

For over a year now, I've been saving saving up money so I can join the PC master race. When it comes to it, I'm able to get great deals on my CPU&Mobo through microcenter, along with a PSU, HDD and a case. A year ago, 8GB DDR4 was around $40 single channel or $50 ish dual-channel. Now its approaching $70. Same thing with SSDs; I could get a 240 GB SSD a few months ago for $60 whereas now I can barely get a 120 GB. Don't even get me started with GPU prices.

So my question is, should I go ahead and buy my RAM and SSD now? (I'm not buying a GPU right now either way) Or should I wait a few months, and save money that can be put towards growing my Steam library?

Rain (yes, you read that right) got into my PC build - how f**ked am I? pc building site custom pc builder

"Damage"

Yeah...

Idiocy 101.

Flash flood rain literally came out of nowhere in Connecticut and got my PC wet. Me and my roommate share a studio with a side room, so I keep a good portion of my inventory (especially that of which I plan to work on) in the living room. Had the window open cause it was literally 87 degrees a half hour ago and when I went to put my plate in the sink, the rain got the strongest I've ever seen and literally gushed through the screen in the window. I pushed my PC out of the way but to no avail, as when I took off the side panel (which, had holes for exhaust :( ) I noticed water all of my motherboard, HDD and CPU fan. There was no GPU as I was going to put an RX 480 in there (thank god I didn't) so the only things damaged are:

  • FX-8350 (assuming moisture got into CPU through fan)
  • AMD stock cooler
  • MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard
  • Seagate 2TB HDD

no RyZen jokes pls ): (I currently am loving my R7 1700/RX 480 build).

That's everything that got wet besides the case. My question is, is this it for the build? It hasn't been plugged into power in 2 weeks and it was off when this happened. I'm wondering if I leave it alone for a few days and power on, will it still short circut? I'm really not trying to fry anything but I definitely want to find out if the stuff is still functional.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions!

Awaiting your responses,

- eussy.

Buying my 1080p Ryzen 5 build next week, am I ready? (First Build) pc building site custom pc builder

Sorry I can't use format for build ready :( (mobile right now)

I want to build a 1400$ (budget including psu and case I already bought) build give or take 20-30$. I want to play demanding games like Witcher 3 and Doom at 60fps and less demanding eSports like CS:GO at 144fps. I'm ordering from Los Angeles, California but delivering to Miami, Florida.

Dark rock pro 3 + z720i = no clearance for lpx pc building site custom pc builder

I am disappointed with this. I think I have two options: smaller ram, though I am not sure if you can get it this small. Or a AIO cooler or smaller air cooler.

What would reddit do? I can return the cooler but not the ram. Any cooler suggestions?

Today I launched mboard.io , a motherboard site for beginner builders pc building site custom pc builder

https://www.mboard.io/

This is a small project I put together to help beginner PC builders research and find a motherboard. It contains a guide on motherboard selection, a directory to find a motherboard to pair with a desktop CPU, a custom search page, and a couple other tools.

I definitely did not know very much about motherboards my first time around (I just grabbed the one pcpartpicker recommended) so I'm hoping this site can help at least a few people. It is still its infancy and I would appreciate if anyone could let me know if they don't see their CPU in the directory or notice anything else wrong with the site. I would also appreciate feedback and criticism.

In the future I think I want to add a news section, a "find a CPU for your motherboard" directory, and maybe make the search section a little bit cooler. Let me know if you have any suggestions! The site layout is very basic (I have been by told by friends that it looks like a PDF) but I think it is pretty easy to navigate. Hope it is helpful!

Edit: The mobile site is probably very buggy right now, I would recommend viewing on a desktop.
