This computer is primarily used for high-end gaming (or at least, was until I started to run things on medium). That's my ultimate goal with this build, to get it flying among the high-end list again.

But I need help on upgrading, and in what order.

  • CPU - It's not a K, and it's an i5. Should I upgrade to an i7? I want to buy a high-end GPU (1080TI) but don't want any bottleneck issues with this or RAM.

  • RAM - Obviously I'm also desperate for 16GB, I know I need it at this point as I have a tendency to always be at 50% or more usage (easily 100% in a game). Does the bus speed matter that much (and if it does, would this mean upgrading to Skylake for DDR4 bus speeds be worth it)? Should I upgrade to 1866mhz or keep it at 1600mhz?

  • Storage - Need an SSD. At least 500GB too, for everything from my games to my operating system. Most everything else can still be kept on the HDD, but it's still a sizeable amount of stuff that would need to go on the SSD.

  • GPU - If I'm upgrading this, it's to an Nvidia 1080TI, without a doubt. My questions mostly revolve around whether to get this first or after my build is "ready" to handle it.

My budget isn't necessarily an issue, I'm just looking for a roadmap of what I should upgrade piece-by-piece. I'd say my ultimate budget is $1500 but I only have around $400-$500 on hand right now.
