Can I safely install the motherboard with one missing standoff? pc building site custom pc builder

I'm installing a Gigabyte GA-B250M-D3H mATX into my old case GIGABYTE GZ-X5.

I have 6 standoffs, but the mobo has 7 holes.

Can I get away with not using one? I was thinking of ignoring the one in the middle, bellow the RAM.

The internet is giving me conflicting answers from people who did this and had nothing go wrong and people who say sparks started shooting out of their PCs.
