Long overdue upgrade for Development, VMs, Light Gaming pc building site custom pc builder

Build Help:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

Yes.

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Development, virtual machines, some light gaming. I plan to run Linux and keep Windows 10 Pro in a virtual machine for now, but may change to dual booting down the road. I plan to re-use my hard drives from my current computer, potentially adding a mechanical drive for more storage. Having extra cores available for multiple virtual machines is what is pushing me to the 1700 over the 1600.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

I currently have two 1680x1050 monitors and do not have a plan to upgrade within the next year. Getting 60 fps on one of the monitors would be fine for now, using older Steam games such as CS:GO, TF2, etc., with the option to play Overwatch if I use Windows.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

$800 ballpark

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

USA, with a Micro Center in the area

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Provide any additional details you wish below.

For the motherboard, I've been going back and forth between the AsRock AB350 Pro4, ASRock - Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4, and MSI B350 TOMAHAWK.

Other lists with these motherboard selections are here:

Gaming K4: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Nytrjc

MSI Tomahawk: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gsVb9W

I already picked up the power supply from a sale.

I'm coming from a 2008 build running a Core 2 Duo E8500, 8 GB of DDR2, and an EVGA 8800 GTS. Needless to say, this upgrade has been a long time coming.
