Need help deciding between add on card for RAID or M.2 pc building site custom pc builder

I recently finished my PC build and while selecting my motherboard I chose carefully to have enough hard drive space for M.2 and SATA as well as RAID support. However after seeing a great deal at BestBuy for 8TB WD RED Drives I decided to buy five to give myself 32TB with RAID 5 and one fail over hard drive. After I bought the drives I started reading through my Motherboard Manual and realized that because I am using the M.2 drives I have lost the ability to use the onboard RAID config. So now I have to figure out if I wan to buy an add on PCI card for either my M.2 drives or a RAID card. I read a lot online stating that onboard RAID cards are trash, but those were from 2013 and prior. My plan is to eventually have 3 M.2 hard drives and to run RAID 5 on my 5 hard drives. Can someone assist me with choosing which PCI card I should buy?
