Why does everyone say Ryzen needs fast memory for gaming? pc building site custom pc builder

Hey guys! So I watched a couple of videos from Hardware Unboxed about Ryzen and memory. The first concluded that when you increase memory speed, Ryzen and Kaby Lake both scaled the same with a 1080 Ti. (For clarity, I'm saying their performance increased by the same amount, not that they performed the same.)

The second showed that the slower your GPU, the less of an effect memory speed has on Ryzen, to the point where testing with the 1060 gave negligible if any difference at all.

So why the emphasis on Ryzen needing fast memory when it scales the same as Kaby Lake?

EDIT: Typo
